Agia Roumeli is located at the exit of Samaria gorge, the 2nd largest gorge in Europe. There are no roads in the area and the only way to come is either by the ferry or by a taxi boat from Chora sfakion, Paleochora, Sougia (departs every day during summer months) or by foot (several different ways).
